Yor Forger: The Thorn Princess Who Can't Cook

3 min read

She files paperwork at city hall by day. By night, she takes out targets for a secret organization. And she still can't make an omelet without it turning into a biohazard.

Yor Forger is the heart of Spy x Family, and the reason a show about spies and telepaths keeps landing on "best waifu" lists year after year. Here's everything that makes the Thorn Princess so impossible not to love.

Who is Yor Forger?

Yor Forger, born Yor Briar, is a 27-year-old clerk at Berlint City Hall in the fictional country of Ostania. She's polite, a little awkward, and easily flustered by small talk with her coworkers.
She's also the Thorn Princess, one of the deadliest assassins working for a secret group called the Garden. She takes jobs from her handler, known only as the Shopkeeper, and fights with a pair of golden stiletto blades.

After their parents died, Yor raised her younger brother Yuri, and much of her assassin work began to support him. Ironically, Yuri now works for Ostania's State Security Service, the very people who hunt spies and criminals.

The fake marriage

In Ostania, a single woman her age draws suspicion, and Yor needs a cover. Loid Forger needs a wife for his own mission, Operation Strix. They meet by chance and agree to a marriage of convenience.
Neither knows the other's secret. Loid is the spy Twilight. Their adopted daughter, Anya, is a telepath who knows everyone's secret and delights in it.

Why fans love her

✅ Deadly and dorky at the same time. Yor can kick a car hard enough to dent it. She also panics about whether she's being a good enough wife. That contrast is the core of her charm.

🍳Her cooking is a running gag. Her dishes are so bad they have knocked out her own family. Watching her try (and keep trying) to learn is one of the show's sweetest threads.

🍷She has zero tolerance for alcohol. One glass and the polite city hall clerk becomes a blunt, punch-happy mess.

❤️ 🔥She loves Anya fiercely. Yor isn't Anya's birth mother, but she would fight anyone for her. Some of the warmest scenes in the series are just the two of them.
Her slow-burn feelings for Loid. The marriage starts as a cover. Yor's growing, confused feelings for her "fake" husband keep fans glued to every family outing.

She's a sister first. Her bond with Yuri is both touching and hilarious, especially since he's terrified of Loid and obsessed with protecting her.

Yor's best moments (light spoilers)

1. The proposal (Season 1). Loid proposes in the middle of a fight, using a grenade pin as a ring. Yor says yes while taking down an attacker. It's the series in one scene.

2. Dodgeball with Anya's class (Season 1). Yor's "gentle" throws are anything but, and the parents are horrified.

3. The cruise arc (Season 2). Yor protects a mother and son on a luxury ship against wave after wave of assassins. This is the arc to show anyone who doubts she's the strongest Forger.

4. Learning to cook (Season 1). A small, funny, surprisingly sincere look at how hard she works to be a "normal" wife.

5. Family movie time in Code: White (2023). The original film gives Yor a fun mix of action and jealous-wife comedy.

The voices and the look

In Japanese, Saori Hayami voices Yor, who also voices Shinobu Kocho in Demon Slayer. In the English dub, Natalie Hoover voices her.
Her design leans on contrast too. In daylight, she wears cozy sweaters and simple office wear. As the Thorn Princess, she switches to a black off-shoulder dress, a golden rose headband, and her twin stilettos. That outfit has become a cosplayer favorite.
